On the day of your test

On the day of your practical test. Well done you have come this far passed your theory test, and coped with your instructor to start of with!

The test will start of with your eye sight test get this wrong you’re not going anywhere and after that a few safety questions about the vehicle. (Show me tell me) The test will last for 40 minutes which incorporates manoeuvres and your general driving and how safely you deal with specific situations. You are allowed maximum 16 minor driving faults and a major/dangerous fault then you have failed your test. If at any time the examiner thinks you are a danger to other road users the test will be stopped immediately.

During the test your examiner will give you directions so listen carefully as to what instructions they give, you will be asked to carry set exercises. The general idea is to drive the way you drove with your instructor if they didn’t recommend you for test then you would not be here so don’t worry if you make any mistakes just carry on as normal the examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving.

Once the test has finished the examiner will let you know if you have passed or failed feed back will be provided if requested and they will go through your performance during the test.

If you pass the examiner will take your provisional licence and provide you with a pass certificate and your new full licence will be posted to you.

If you fail the examiner will go through the test report and provide feedback which will help you prepare for your next test. Your test report form will show you all the mistakes made.

All examiners are trained to carry out to the same standard as they do not have pass or fail quotas as long as you can demonstrate a safe standard of driving throughout you will pass.
